    Default Geer. Shwarz & Co?

    Hello,

I have an old German straight with brand partially wore down.

As far as I can read it says " Geer. Schwarz & Co Haan Solingen"

Looked for it but couldn't find any information about the maker. Although lost some of its size, İt has a very nice, though homogenous steel that takes a nice edge easily and not that crisp at all.

Any help about the maker is appreciated.

    thanks.

Definitely ‘GEBR.’ (Brothers), as ‘GEER’ has no meaning in German.
Sadly, I am unable to provide any information on the company though.

I have been fortunate, with Sheffield cutlees at least, to find hard to find makers in a trade name directory. Maybe you could find the same for German cutlers.

There is something similar for German makers here https://www.archivingindustry.com/cu...azormakers.htm . I did not find it listed but there are lots of holes in the records that may never be filled. It is what happens when you are bombed in WWII.

That explains a lot. I wasn't born during WWII but I was bombed for most of the 70s & 80s.
