Thread: Gold Gillette Black Beauty DE

Since I'm waiting on my custom SR from Frans to arrive, I've decided to grow my SE and DE collection. Using a Krona for several yrs, and never gotten into Gillette's, as most of my DE friends have, I thought I'd take a closer look at them.

Over the past few weeks or so, I have picked up several different Tech models (fat handle, ball end, travel, etc.), a lady Gillette for my wife, as well as a couple techmatic SE's. Most all from eBay and less than $10 shipped/ea. None are 'collectors', per say. But they do need to be included in a 'collection.'

Last night, while perusing different razor sites, I came across a guy wanting to fund another DE, so he had his P-1 Gillette Gold Black Beauty for sale. (('70 is my birth year and all my friends say the fatboy/adjustable and Black Beauty's are a 'must have.')) After asking for better pics, of various parts, and asking different mechanical questions, I came to conclude it was in good condition. We agreed upon a price ($45 shipped), which I felt was below what it was worth (that's the 'hazards' of wanting to fund another razor).

Anyway, here's a couple pics.

You won't be disappointed with the Gillette Black Beauty adjustable. Have not personally owned a Gold Tone but did have a regular Black Beauty, a slim adjustable, a Super adjustable, still have 3 Fat Boy adjustables, a 3 pc. ball end, 3 pc. open comb and a Red Tip. The older Gillette DE razors were all really made sturdy to last a long time, the ones I have will be handed down to my grandsons.
