Thanked: 3James Johnson wedge brought back to life
Today I brought back to life a James Johnson Sheffield Wedge. Sorry no pics, yeah I know it didn't happen if there's no pics. Originally was going to replace the scales but they turned out to be ebony scales so I sanded and oiled them up. Knocked off a lot of rust and grime from the blade. I stopped short of removing the pitting as I just don't think it's required. I set the edge with a DMT 325 then moved over to the Shapton 1K, Took longer than I expected to get the edge set but the smile on the blade probably had something to do with that. From the 1k, moved on up to 4k, 8k then a coticule then 6 strokes on a Shapton 16k and finally 6 passes on a leather strop. Needless to say I'm excited to see what it feels like, first a wedge straight razor is something new to me and then the coticule edge is also new. Anyone else look forward to the morning alarm just so they can shave and test their work out?
SteveAll the best,
Steve

Yes,,, I do.
Testing of a new razor that you have honed yourself is one of the better parts of wet shaving.

Thanked: 237All the time. And i wish my hair grew faster so i could try more razors and stones in quicker time. If youre hitting the 16k after the coti, its kinda like not using the coti.

Thanked: 3Actually I'll be testing it both before and after the 16k. Tomorrow is the coti before 6 light passes on the 16k. In a few days I'll rehone and go with the coti following the 16k. I've been told it's about face feel and I may learn something with this test. The coticule felt great by the way.
All the best,
Steve
