    Thanks Mark;

    It helps, Ive' never seen that chart. It must be massive # 5cho-gake possibly Hitachi WS because the buyer said it measured 175mm however the profile looks more like the #4. I will get DIMS when arrives. Was this thing for shaving heads?
    Thank you
    MIke

    Hi Mike

    The chart is from Tamahagane Honsha.
    Yes it looks like 4cho gake, I don't think the sizes are exact, as in all hand forged razors there will be tolerances.
    Yes I believe the larger sizes were for shaving heads.
    The chonmage was a hair style worn by Samurai from the Edo period in which the front part of the head is shaved and the rest forms a top knot, sumo wrestlers also wear the top knot style too. Interestingly the larger Henkotsus' have the kanji 日下開山 - Hinoshita-Kaizan.
    Hinoshita-Kaizan is a Buddhist term meaning a man of great strength and power, it was given as a title to a legendary sumo wrestler of immense size.

    The Henkotsu arrived, here it is along side a large Iwasaki w/ some finger stones being prepped for polishing.. The Henkotsu is a little rough and will look better once finished proper.

    I have worked with big nihon kamisori, forgot about the Norikazu Takahashi #2 Kanatake far right. Based on a Tsurayuki brand razor.

    Since the Henkotsu kamisori razors have been listed, I thought I'd add my folding Henkotsu kamisori:

    No, I purchased it from Japanese-razor.com about six months ago. It's the only one I've ever seen.

    Interesting these large Henkotsu normally are not seen in folding style. I do have a 1" folding Henkotsu 日下開山 Hikakaizan / Hinoshitakaizan .
