Default Help with info about Vintage Boker King Cutter

    Hello Folks,

I've just purchased an old Boker King Cutter and wanted to ask for your help on three questions:

#1. It does not say "Solingen" anywhere so i wonder if this was no made in Solingen or if it was made of a steel that was not from Solingen... i know that Boker has some razors like the old 1101 that say " made of Finest India steel", which i guess means that Bokers are not always are Solingen razors.. what should i think about this king cutter?

#2. There is a thread here where the dating of this kind of King Cutters is discussed, not conclusive dating but from what I read it must be either 1900 or 1915. you can see the logo of this razor better on that thread (i can't attach a better picture it cause razor is still in the mail)... so one of the main isues I'm having with the dating is that in the pictures provided by the experts none of the different labels of the blase say only "H.Boker & Co".. so all of the other says Solingen, or tree brand, etc etc... but this one only says "H.Boker & Co"... none of the tables shows this single legend... maybe one of you guys can help.

#3. any of you guys have one of this and has shaved with it? mine is still in the mail but knowing about your experiences about the quality of the blade can help in the anxiety of the looooong waiting

    To #3 question.
I own a few Bokers marked that way, but not a king Cutter.
Have no complaints about the shave...from any Boker.

    New or vintage!

I have a few vintage Boker razors and no complaints about the way they shave. Boker has a solid reputation and from what I can see it is well deserved.

Just checked, I've got a Red Injun 101, and 102, marked Boker Germany on the reverse tang. I've got a King Cutter marked Boker Solingen Germany on the reverse tang, probably a later razor than the two red injuns. I've never seen a Boker straight razor that wasn't a great shaver.

I have one of these (your gold wash and etch is in better shape) that is of this same vintage and configuration. I think it is a bit later (1935-1947) in my best guestimation. I love it to pieces. They are pretty easy to find, very affordable, and provide a superb shave once honed. I have also found that mine holds its edge nicely and responds very well to touch-ups versus a whole honing progression. You won't be disappointed in the least.

Take a look at "Strazors" web site for their section on Boker. They show the various tree configurations used over the years. You will be able to get a general idea of when the razor was made by matching the tree on your razor with one of the ones illustrated on the site.
