Baxter of cali blue steel
Blue Steel "Not a Replica" Men's Straight Blade Razor - Baxter
Has anyone used this. Worried about the black wearing away, curious on feedback. Really a different look to me.

Thanked: 24
Well, I have two Hart Steel customs and they do shave well. Both my razors are 1/4 hollow, brushed steel finish, silent shavers.
Unfortunately, I find the fit and finish lacking on both of mine. The brushed finish is very inconsistent and the scales are not very good (grain not filled in). They also managed to place the Hart logo on crooked and the makers name crooked on the other.
A blued steel finish will wear off on the spine unless you use tape honing it.
I would not expect that finish to wear off at any other places just from normal use, but again I don't have a razor with that finish.
This razor doesn't specify its grind, but as far as I know Hart only made 1/4 hollow grinds. Expect a different feel from a full hollow, less tactile feedback and no audible feedback at all...not bad, just different.
Plenty of folks love their Harts and you might too.Cheers,
Brian

I have considered blueing a razor before. Hart razors shave very well for me. Tough to sharpen, tough to dull.

Just wondering why one would call a razor "not a replica". Does that mean something like: "though it looks like a replica we don't want you to think it is one"?

I have 3 of them . Not a replica is a reference to firearms..
Mine are still blue.. Tape the spine when honing.
They are special blades imo.

Thanked: 23Look at the Portland Razor website and take a look at the acid coloring they are doing with some of the custom blades they put out and see if that is attractive. Better yet, give them a call and they will be glad to give courteous answer to your issues. They produce a quarter hollow, and although the acid etching or whatever their process is doesn't attract me personally, several people seem to be pleased. Worth a shot. I am waiting on a razor from them, and my research shows good fit and finish, and you can't work with better people. If I was a few decades younger, I'd move to Portland and work with them if they would have me. Just my $.02

Thanked: 23Added information. They acid etc with ferric chloride. Look up PRC on uTube and their Instagram link there shows some of the acid etched razors. The phone call will be a good experience.
