I am fully apprised of the gold dollar scene. I still have some of the "Wapi2" razors and most of the iterations that followed. I bought 20 gds a while ago and brought them down to Howard Clark's place. We broke several! The heat treat is crap but we found that they COULD be heat treated properly for a drastic improvement in the steel. Of course that lead to the edge being a potato chip so it was not a perfect improvement.
In general though, breaking a gold dollar in half is a great start!
Even though I had ground down the shoulders, Randy did not enjoy honing his first gold dollar. Not at all.
