Thanked: 1Trying to date a Wade & Butcher Sheffield with no logo
Hello,
I am new here and trying to figure out what date my razor is so I can try to put a value on this. I purchased a group of items and this razor was in it. Someone told me it was fairly valuable but I have no clue, I don't know if it was made in the 1800's or 1900's. I would appreciate any help on it. I don't have a picture yet but it is pretty straight forward since there is no logo. I have searched the internet but to no avail. It has horn scales. The blade as an eagle on it and beneath each of its wings it says American Razor (in script). Between the blade and the scale where they attach it says: MANUFACTURED BY
WADE & BUTCHER
SHEFFIELD
And that is it. There is no logo. Any idea when this would have been made. I greatly appreciate your help with this. Thank you.

Welcome aboard Blake,,,,,,,,,,,,
Post some photos of your razor, all sides & closeups of the writing. The guys will help you narrow down the date. We cannot provide you a value, as that is against policy; but at least we can give you information on its history. With the history, there are venues such as eBay that can give you an idea on its worth.

Yeah, posting pics of the razor in question would be best. There is also a razor database here at SRP. Here are a couple of links to Wade & Butcher American Razors.

Thanked: 634Wade & Butcher was manufactured from 1818-1890. Check strazors.com..
As for value, it is what the admirer thinks it is worth. I love Wade & Butcher and sell quite a few. Have shaved with them also. I still refuse to pay the high prices some pay. If I am patient I can get them at a decent price so I can sell them at a de sent price.

That engraving is definitely not original to that razor a add on.

Thanked: 1interesting
I find that interesting as there is a pic on Strazors that looks identical to this razor but there is no date on it. Why do you say that it was added later? Here is the link to Strazors with the pic.

Thanked: 634I have to disagree. Have seen too many with that engraving. Can't all be add on's.

You cannot engrave or stamp a hardened blade. That show face is as it left the factory.
