Thanked: 0C.V. Heljestrand MK31 info
I received this razor for Xmas and it appears to be in like new condition. I've been trying to find out what the scales are made of, they don't appear to be ivory, but I'm not sure if it is plastic or bakelite... the box has a date of 4/5/79 written on it...

If the razor was made in 79 I would guess it would not be Ivory. Just a guess.

Thanked: 3215Post some pics.
Heljestrand made some very nice shaving razors, some were in ivory.
My bride came and got me at an antique swap meet, one time saying, “Come over here and look at this old razor with cheap, thin, white plastic scales. She wanted ten buck, but I talked her down to six.”
Yea, they were Ivory and the razor was pristine…

If it's not ivory, it should be tortoise. Either way, that's a rather nice razor.

If the pins have collars/washers I'd wager they are synthetic material. If they are collarless, Ivory. Either way, the blade should make for a top notch shave.
Be careful how you treat people on your way up, you may meet them again on your way back down.
