Default The best straight on earth

Well ok, highly subjective statement but I think this one is close. Freshly honed on Nortons to 8k the coti finish and the shave is effortless and silky smooth. BBS is a breeze. No omg, this thing is sharp I'd better be extra careful. No, ok that's feels close enough, anymore and I may as well burn it off.
I'm still not 100% on the tip. Maybe I just prefer square points or barber's knotch. Maybe my next hone with the next Sheffield will leave me as ecstatic as this one Thiers, I dunno but I'm stoked with this blade. Imagine running a cold steel rod across you face and 4 days growth is gone.

There is no doubt that "Le Grelot" razors are fine shavers, for you its your WOW razor for now, everybody will have a different opinion or style that fits them well!

    Two things:

    1) Brace yourself: you may have loosed the hounds of Hades with the title of this thread. Please don't take the rows and ructions that may follow personally, but whenever someone says X is "the best", some sort of kerfuffle usually ensues...

    2) Congratulations! You found YOUR razor. Look after it and it will give a lifetime of satisfaction.

FWIW, mine if a Wheatley Bros near wedge with an Irish point. I.e. *completely* different from yours: different steel, different grind, different point, etc. But for me, it just works beautifully.

It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.

you know that it could be a combination of things, I used to need the absolute best edge known to mankind ,, but as my technique got better, my stropping got better, and I quit using subpar soaps. well now most decent edges provide the same super smooth shave as those scary sharp ones did in the beginning.

never underestimate the value of knowing how to shave, I thought at one time I was doing a great job on touching up, but it really was my technique. I,m not saying that you can do it with a dull blade just so you know it could just be you and the blade fitting your style,, but congrats on getting good shaves form this great razort

The title is tongue in cheek. I'm sure everyone has their own favorites. I'm just sharing how stoked I am about this one. I'm new to "Le Grelot" and not a honemeister but... first two shaves with this one are pretty hot d@#*!

This is right on point. As my experience keeps on growing (honing, stroping, shaving) everything has started to fall into place. Then i received a tallow soap. OMG! All of the sudden i had BBS from 5 of my 6 razors every day. I still have to figure out that blessed Kanetaka...

I am glad that you found your formula. May it last forever. Or until you buy a razor that was finished with something different and you find yourself going down that rabbit hole again.... jeje. I enjoy it every time...!!!

Depending on your approach. Some find their favorite and stop. That's no fun, right?
So we/I keep seeing guys on here talking about how much they love (fill in the blank) razor. And that gets you thinking.
That leads to watching auctions. Then bidding. Going to the mail box every afternoon. Getting a new to me razor. And trying and comparing it to its predecessors.
I totally enjoy this process. Finances have forced me to limit my purchase.s to under $40. While it is a challenge to find razors in the size I prefer 6/8ths +.
They are out there. Waiting for one I found made in Germany for a Baltimore cutler. 20 miles from me. That seems to have been in business from the mid 1800's till 1920's .
Currently my long time top razor is a Otto Busch Worldmaster 7/8ths Extra hollow. Others are close. But before that it was a Gold Rex. Before that it was a Top Flight. and so on. I have had about 30 razors since starting. Experimenting with sizes and grinds. Zeroing in on what works for me.
Started thinning the herd recently. Sold some and gifted some. Down to the 12 that I really enjoy using.
Soaps and Afftershaves are another good smelling slippery slope. I will not even go into
Luckily I never acquired HAD. Still enjoying the journey. Ken

I have many razors that are fine shavers, but my single best shaver is probably my Wacker. I only have one, but I am pretty sure they all shave nicely With vintage blades, Joseph Rodgers are the most consistently good shavers in my collection.

I have or have had all the major razor manufacturers and modern manufacturers and custom razors but I really like the Kropp and Bengalls. Great shave for the buck.
