We use the term convex because people understand that better than saying unequal width. Alot of people have trouble visualizing that. besides the blade side that goes away from your face by comparison to the other side is convex by definition. The edge isn't but the upper part of the blade is.

looking at it again I realize that you are right.

the other side of the blade isn't convex or flat at all so I guess thats why everybody is shaving with both sides of the blade

    BUT

I do see the argument that these were probably designed to shave another persons face and there has to be a reason they designed it the way they did. I'm sure the concave side takes a better edge and is probably a better surface to shave with. I'm going to give this a go and hopefully all turns out well.

thanx for all the help guys

A certain member likes to refer to them as 'nice chisels' so I was waiting for his comment.

If you look in the sales forum area you'll see some that have been up for sale recently. The japanese bit in the thread title will show you where to look.

Understood. I saw those razors before and wondered about them. But to each their own I guess.

it is something different and offers some variety I think. I don't regret buying it for a second. I actually bought it in Japan when I was in the navy for 7200 yen (about $65 or $70 at the time) at a knife shop. It seems like everything japanese doubles its price by the time it makes it over here. My feather AC RG with the black handle was 8000 yen and its double that on classic.
