    Default Will it shave?

Picked up this RSO a couple years ago with the intention of using the scales on another razor. I think I paid about $5 for it on eBay. When it arrived I decided I didn't really like the scales and set it in a drawer.

I was pretty bored last night so I put it on the 1k Chosera to see what kind of a bevel it would take. It took some doing, but it eventually took a nice bevel, so I took it through the progression. After stropping it did well on the HHT, but I didn't like the look of the edge under the loupe(here's a clue). I went back to the 8k until it cleaned up and again finished on th 12k. The bevel looked great but the edge was still kind of iffy.

I took a shower, lathered up and gave it a try. I decided to go for 3 passes to get a good feel for it. First pass was pretty good! It shaved comfortably with little effort. The second pass was still pretty good, but felt a bit lacking in some of the tougher areas of my face. On the third pass it still shaved well but was noticeably less comfortable. I still got an ATG pass on all my trouble spots without irritation though.

This thing actually gave an acceptable shave, but I could clearly feel the edge diminishing throughout the process of shaving. It was clear that another shave with this wouldn't be a good thing. A look under the loupe confirmed what I was feeling. Thousands of micro chips from the heel to the toe.

    So. Will it shave? Yes!
Will it hold and edge? no.
Should you buy one and tell all your friends it's the next Gold Dollar? NO!!!

Add a layer of tape and take it back down to 8K and see if it holds together.

I would use the scales & dispose of the blade is there any makers name or country of origin? Someone would like the scales so you could more than make your money back I am pretty sure.

The spine does seem kind of thin so it could be a geometry issue as opposed to a steel issue(or both). It's going back in the drawer for now. I'll probably try it with a couple layers some day when I'm really bored again.

No markings on it. I assume it's probably from Pakistan or China. When I do toss it out I'll save the scales. They're nothing special but they're not bad.
