Thanked: 324Micarta scales - one of the best, in my opinion
For durability, toughness, solid feel and texture, I think it's hard to beat micarta, although it's not as popular as the natural materials but it's really great stuff. And I, personally, think it's pretty easy on the eye and quite easy on the wallet.
Here's one I did in Micarta.

Thanked: 324Thank you. This is maroon linen micarta, which is made with layers of linen bonded together with polymer resins. It's extremely tough, waterproof, chemical resistant, UV resistant and about as stable a material as has ever been made. It takes a nice polish and maintains what I consider to be a very nice texture with deep color. All my personal shavers are handled with micarta. It doesn't have the character of the natural materials, but for pure, practical beauty, it's impossible to beat, in my opinion.

Thanked: 0Micarta is my favourite knife handle; I'd love to see more of it on razors.

Thanked: 9Ahhh, Chris - take it away, hide this!
Fabulous...
I am one of the big fans of natural (horn, wood, etc.) scales but I am willing to grant Micarta almost equal status: because it looks great, indeed, and is still to a large part natural, imo
Cheers

Thanked: 346One of my Robert Williams razors has micarta scales, and I also have a high opinion of this stuff for razor scales.

Hey Robert,
Is this the same Micarta that Dovo uses?
I DO have one of those, and those scales are rather sturdy!
I've noticed that most of your Micarta is burgundy/Red. Do you also use black micarta, and does it come in any other colors?
Also, does all Micarta have that layered look when it's cut at an angle?
