    Default W. Gilchrist razor

    Hi! I just purchased this beauty of a razor. Do any of you have information on this razor? It seems to be a wade & butcher, but I'm not sure. ThanksName: IMG_0319.jpg

    I watched that big blade on eBay. Gilchrist is an American maker from New Jersey with sort of a colorful history. Search the forums here and you should come up with quite a bit of information.

    If it had been a Wade and Butcher, it would have been stamped with "Wade and Butcher."

    Manufactured in New Jersey 1850-1860. Lincoln was carrying a Gilchrist pocket knife when assassinated.
    I have one and they shave great.

    Nice razor congrats, there are plenty of evidence that Gilchrist was an Importer of razors and cutlery items, like the razors below with Elliot trademark and Wade and Butcher.

    On the same token there are plenty of evidence that he did manufacture razors and cutlery as well.

    Lastly lets not forget that the Ramapo razors were indeed from Gilchrist.

    Having had B52's Gilchrist in-hand, I have no doubt this particular one was made by Wade and Butcher;

    Damn, if you read those articles above, won't need to see the stones again till I'm in my 60s if I start using a good strop, haha.
    Be sending a stern note to W Wilson challenging that claim if I only get 9 years out of it.

    To the OP, congratulations. You will love that one.
