Help with a Purchased gift

Hello,
I am new to this forums, and looking for some advice on Thiers Issard La Legende Straight , I receive one today from Fenriham (the Egypt designed with ebony scales) paid about 185.99 (100 off) and is intended to be a gift for my boyfriend who is a professional barber, my question is :
These razors are good or I need to purchase another brand? I don't have opened the box yet because I wanted him to open the box, just asking because don't want to look like an ignorant girl in barber things. He don't have any Thiers Issard Straight razors.

TI's are generally excellent razors. Occasionally some minor issues. I am sure Fenriham will sort you out in case one might arise. May not be shave-ready though. Most razors need to be honed before use.

I have dealt with Fendrihan in the past and their razors are not hand honed, they are factory edges. Basically what that will mean to you is that it may or may not shave as is, statistically I think it falls to not. If you want to give the razor shave ready you will need to get it honed. There are many people around you that hone. I am guessing that your boyfriend does not hone, but could be way off there. They are decent razors and should be a great gift.

Welcome to the forum. I bought one of the TI La Legende series of razors from Fendrihans a while back.

No real complaints but it did need to be honed to shave well as the factory edge was not quite there for me. It is a good looking razor that I am sure your boyfriend will enjoy.

What a great girlfriend you are! Welcome to the forum. Be sure to have him join up too. We have a couple barbers I think in the group. Just tell him when you give it to him that you knew it was going to need honing but didn't want to open the package. This way you sound like you know more than he thinks. Ha.

I will post pictures tomorrow of the razor, when package will open, in the meantime this is the razor purchased, from the website. I choose the ebony wood scales.
