Thread: Anyone know anything about this razor?

Making some straight scales for it and a deep cleaning will have it in show room condition. Also honing a razor is different from honing other things, and this is not exactly a good razor to use for learning that. If you are going to shave with this razor, please either wait until you have a lot of experience honing or send it to someone. I'm sure you would have no problem finding someone to do that for you.

Agreed.

Honing 18th century razors is best done after you have a really good idea what you're doing between the rock and the metal.

I'm thinking about 3-D printing some all black scales for the time being. Not only will it show me how it will look but it will have scales on it.

That is an interesting idea. I would try it if I could.

as this is an old piece, i think it would be better to make scales by a digne material; i'd say horn transculed to be with the original scales but it could be also an option bone scales. otherwise you can still go with 3D painting but it would be better for some blades from 20th century.


personnal opinion ; it is a very nice finding, i love those old blades.

The printed scales would be temporary. I do not plan on keeping them on it for ever.

That's an interesting idea, and something I've been curious about whether anyone has tried. If you do, please keep us posted. And then get some horn or bone ones for keeps. Your blade will be happier. (IMHO)

Why not just use the Olde English razor scales for now. Till you get a proper time period correct pair.

I think the whole idea with the 3D printer was just to exercise a perfectly good excuse to play around with a 3D printer. :-) it would be fun for sure.
