Thanked: 23W&B ID
Hi all,
I bought this blade and fail to realize what about of period is.
I realize not too good if the scales are made of horn or wood, is not very important because one is cracked and I do not think they can do something with it.
Can you help me?
thank you very much!
PS: I hope google have made me understand.

Nice old razor. The scales are made of horn. As for a date, my estimate would be 1850 to 1880.

Thanked: 4826New scales are easy enough to either make or have made. It looks like it has potential.

Nice W&B wedge you have. Since it says sheffield and NOT Sheffield, England this dates it prior to 1891. I believe the above estimate of age is pretty correct. With a new set of scales she will be beautiful horn is a great and good looking material when all shinny and new congrats.

Thanked: 23I should understand that it is not done in England?
I slowly try to make it look shiny again.
Shame that has a small crack in the bevel, possible to lose 1 mm in width.

It was made in England, but after 1891 they were required to include the country on the stamp for export reasons. Nice razor!

Thanked: 23A closer look I saw an inscription on the blade. I have no idea what it says.
Blade profile also seems strange, it may be microtome?
ask for the measure on both sides, between the probe and the contact line of the blade ridge width is 20 mm, 20.1 mm.
It may be due to poor sharpening?
