    Default New razor grinds

Slowly thinking I'd like to try a new production razor. Found with my classic razors that I prefer the slightly less hollow hollows. For example prefer my wostie full hollow to my kropp, which with my limited experience I would almost call singing hollow.

Dovo Bismarck, Thiers Issard special coiffeur and revisor are what's tempting me. However I'm struggling to find pictures of the grind, ie how hollow the grinds are. Anyone with these razors fancy posting some pics of the grinds?

Should also say the revisor I'm looking at is the shoulderless.

I found a full set of photos of the Dovo Bismark on the Griffith Shaving Goods web site. The Bismark is normally described as full hollow. I have one and consider that description to be accurate.

I do not have a TI Special Coiffeur, nor could I find a head-on photo. While most TI razors are full hollow singing razors, the Special Coiffeur is described as half hollow. So that may be what you are looking for. The Le Dandy is similar to the Special Coiffeur, but it is described as a full hollow ground.

Most Revisor razors are described as full hollow grind. I do not have one, so I do not know how hollow their grinds might be.

Thank you Ray, that is just the sort of pic I was looking for. that doesn't look overly hollow. Getting even more tempted.

Revisor razors are full hollow. They sing a bit too.

The TI I also have is described as a full hollow and it is.

Thanks bob, not at home at the moment, but from memory none of these are looking as hollow as my kropp. Think I'll compare once I'm back, and then just go by whichever tickles my fancy on the day.

I have a TI which was described as hollow as opposed to full hollow and I would say that it is definitely not a full hollow. It seems heavier and does not sing as much as my Dovo which was described as a full hollow (mine is not the Bismark). Like you I prefer a thicker (if that makes sense) grind. My current favourite is a Koraat which I ordered as a quarter hollow and it is magnificent to shave with.

Having said that I still get great shaves from my full hollow, there is just something about it that I don't like quite as much.

Typically shoulder-less razors are less hollow as they don't need the reinforcement that the shoulder gives. At least I believe that to be the case, I could be completely wrong there of course. I guess steel type comes in to that equation too.

My favourite so far is my near wedge Koraat. But I also really enjoy honing and some variation. Got a lovely edge on my Koraat and need to stop trying to improve it just for the fun of honing. Put enough wear on the poor beauty already.

None of my vintages are shoulderless, and really want to try one out. Think I prefer the look of the revisor blades, but don't like the look of their scales on the shoulderless. Whereas I really like the ebony Bismarck scales.

If you are looking for a very hollow ground razor try and find either an extra full hollow ground or bellied hollow ground razor. Man do they sing.

Nah, looking for the heavier side of hollow. Find the singing type like my Kropp a bit too much. Tend to get little pore weepers no matter how light pressure I use, even with spine almost touching my skin. Prefer a little stiffer and heavier blade. Probably partly down to so far preferring coti edges, like that bit of weight to slide through without feeling the need to push at all. I think I end up using pressure when I push.

In that case the TI Special Coiffeur might be more to your taste in new production razors. Most new production razors seem to be full hollow. The other alternative is to get a custom in the grind that you want.
