Default I think this is a pretty special straight razor - sterling

    Hello,

I've come across a decent amount of straight razors with many having the original box. However, I think this one is pretty special. Curious to get your thought and idea of age/value. (I read the history of the company on this forum.

    Maker: Lecoultre - Switzerland
    - model is 594
    - sterling silver handle (This is first one I've come across with a sterling handle)
    - comes with 2 blades and tool for changing blade

    thx,
    bill

Yup, easily the nicest Lecoultre razor that I have seen. Unfortunately giving valuations are against forum rules. Enjoy your new razor.

Thanks for the all feedback. I've been a lurker on this site for a bit, but never found anything I thought was worth posting.

Apologies about asking for valuation. Did not know it was against the rules.

Anyone have an idea about how to date it?

    Nice find!

Sterling handled razors appeared on the market in the late 19th century (mostly the 1890s with maybe a few produced in the late 1880s) and continued to be made into the early 20th century. So you're probably looking roughly at a 20 year window of 1890-1910, give or take. It's hard to be more precise than that without having dated advertising or catalogues that show your specific razor.

A razor fitted with a sterling handle was a special one indeed reserved for the upper crust of society.
