Thanked: 0Dubl Duck identification
I picked up a DD in very good shape at a yard sale today. I cannot find specific information on this model on the Internet. It has a 5/8 blade but it is short like a shavette. The blade is factory original.
The show side says: BRESDUCK dubl duck SOLINGEN -GERMANY. The flip side says: dubl duck Special No 1.
Any info on what I have here?

I agree, it looks like a cracked area was ground away near the heel. You can see the remains of the original stabilizer.

Yup. Looks like it had a little accident that was cleaned up. Still looks good though and has no hone wear. The bluing on the tang looks nice and dark, so I'm sure it has seen very little use.
If you do a google search for Dubl Duck no. 1 Special you will see how it looked originally. They were fairly ommon razors.B.J.

Thanked: 3225Even though they are a fairly common variety of DD razors, the two that I have shave very well. The person that modified your razor appears to have done a very good job of it. I think you will find you have yourself an excellent shaver, enjoy.

Thanked: 0I got the magnifying glass out and sure enough there are fine machining marks on the bottom of the tang. The modification/repair is so good that when I first saw this for $10 at the yard sale I thought it was a NOS specialty razor made by DD. The scales are pristine and the pinning job was perfect as the blade closes dead center with perfect friction. I have found an interesting new razor that should shave well once the edge has been freshened up.

The special #1 was their go to razor made for professional use. They made them by the millions. The Bresduck was before they sold the company to Pearlson so it's probably 1940s or so.

It's interesting Pearlson had German and American made versions of their razors yet the American versions are a rare duck indeed.
