Thanked: 0Need Help Identifying Razor
I am looking into buying a certain razor, from a shopkeeper I know. The razor has a dense plastic handle, and words I believe are German. Unfortunately the razor was not very well taken care of, and the markings are hard to read. If anyone could give me any assistance I would be grateful.

I'm not one to be of much help in identification but I know that a rubbing would be of help. Grab some paper and a pencil or crayon and do a rubbing of the tang stamps and that should make it a little easier to identify the razor you're looking at. Having pictures of the whole razor is also likely to help as some of these guys can learn quite a bit from the shape of the blade.

Thanked: 0It looked to be about a 5/8 blade, I thought it was strange though. Half of the blade was a wedge, while the other side of it looked to be concaved. Hallow I think it's called. I don't have access to it currently though.

If it looks like this, its called a microtome. Honing these are different from a standard straight, but can be used to shave with from what I understand.

Thanked: 101Go to your local gun shop or big box sporting goods store & get a gun bluing pen & go over the lettering with it. Let it set a few minutes Then with higher grit sandpaper clean the area being careful to not sand down in the letters. You would be surprised how this method works on even highly worn letters. Try & keep the liquid in the letters & not on the rest of the razor. You could even tape off the rest of the tang if you feel the need.
