How much is "a small amount" of spine wear?
I'm interested in the conventional wisdom about describing the wear on a razor spine.
How much is "a small amount"?
<1mm? 1mm? >1mm? more?
At what point is it best described as "moderate"?"If you come up to it, and you just can't do it, then that's jolly well where you are."

How much is "a small amount" of spine wear?
It's substantially less than "a large amount" of spine wear.

Just kidding,,,,,
I would say spine wear becomes an issue when it is inconsistent from the heel to the toe, thus effecting the edge. If the wear is inconsistent on the spine, then the edge does not lay flat on the hone , thus effecting the result.
If you need to correct the spine by 3 layers of tape; then I would say that the wear is too much.

Thanked: 634I would say when it is barely visible or you do not see an uneven surface on the spine.

for me,(and my theory may be wrong) it depends on the grind of the blade.if it is a wedge than i allow a little more (as far as my decision to buy) thinking that being a wedge the spine will show more wear than a full hollow. Make sense?
