Stainless Steel?
I got a Rogers X Y quality Sheffield razor off ebay not to long ago, Its either a 1/4 hollow or 1/2 hollow (not really sure) the problem comes with honing it. Up until now ive honed about 30 different razors from full hollows to wedges but all were some kind of carbon steel. Now this razor took twice as long as any razor to hone
is there a way to tell if its Stainless Steel?

Never heard of a stainless sheffield razor, not that they don't exist... But from the photo it doesn't have the right sheen for stainless - that looks more like silver steel to me. Maybe chrome, but I don't think the brits ever chromed their razors like the americans and some of the imported solingens did.

Well i got it off ebay with another razor, this razor has a mirror finish through out and didnt need to be polished or cleaned the other was definitely carbon steel and needs a lot of polishing. Well thanks for the input it may very well be silver steel its just harder than any other ive honed.

Rogers never made any stainless steel razors and if its silver steel its definitely not stainless. Its probably just a harder steel and thats why it takes longer to hone.
