Has anyone bought razors from SDX-USA ?
They look pretty in my opinion and are not expensive
sdx usa | eBay Stores
I am curious about them but I've seen Damascus steel razors sell for way much more! Specially if they have a wood handle and the whole razor is handmade, so I am really curious about them.
Edit:
Wrong subforum -__- this should be somewhere in equipment.Last edited by Compa; 06-27-2017 at 08:06 PM.

Thanked: 3795I have no experience with that particular brand, but in general all this cheap "Damascus" stuff is crap, and nothing more than a razor shaped knife.

Thanked: 580Yeah, what utopian said. They look like the cheap paki ones. Can get a very nice vintage for the same money.

I also have no experience with this brand.
I would note that as beautiful as etched layered damascus is the edge itself for a shaving razor
needs to be as uniform as possible. Folding, welding and mixings steel argues with that.
On steel would hone and harden one way and the second steel would hone and harden differently.
This difference allows the steel to etch differently and look cool.
Damascus for razors can be done but it is difficult but not for this price point.
In this case the price seems wrong (too low) for a good shaver.
It is common for black powder shooters to use a razor shaped knife
to cut the patch when load in a ball in a black powder gun. I would
buy it for this purpose.
If my eye is calibrated there are locations in the UK and US for the same
products and see a golly big pile of fantasy knives and swords for this
to be a "razor" shop.
One discription reads:
Important Note: - All our products are made with 100% original Damascus Hand forged with two types
of steel (1095 and 15N20) high carbon Steel forged Hardness of the blade along with edge 58-60 HRC.
The Damascus Steel has 374 true Damascus layers.
For razors this level of tempering is soft by our expectations but ok for common knives.
It is a lot softer than japanese style kitchen knives for sure.
These blades seem to be marketed from different places over time.
Badger and blade has a discussion in 2011.. has them in Canada
A mention on this forum in 2015 has the seller in Utah HRC cutlery.
This current seller is apparently in Massachusetts.
I would spend the cash differently and take a friend to a good movie.
Now it anyone finds a razor with a 1095 and 15N20 pattern welded steel
surrounding some hitachi white paper steel at R61 for the edge san sai style for this
price wake me up day or night.

Here is what SDX USA has that would really be worth the money at $350, followed by the perfect pose.

I'll throw my hat in the ring and agree with all the comments here - that price point for Damascus is suspect.
I will say though, that you are almost guaranteed a quality shave if you go with a vintage blade. They can be found at very reasonable prices. And the resources here that can help guide that purchase are limitless. Last item I would say, is that if you don't end up getting it from a honemiester with solid rep, once you do have it, see about getting it honed by a honemiester with solid rep. Then, enjoy a wonderful shave at a great price!

Good to know. I was suspicious since the price is WAY to low.
I suppose they are for decoration or something like that.
@niftyshaving thanx for the info!
I have 2 vintage razors atm. An Invicta (bought here) and a Colonial Razor sent by a senior user here and yes, you all are right. With the proper treatment they rock.
thank you for the advises
