Vintage Pakistani?
OK, so I got suckered in big time by an eBay auction. The razor showed some discoloration, a small chip in the handle, and an unusual blade shape, so I bit. I think I got it pretty cheap, less than $15 shipped. Thought it would make a nice newbie razor.
Well, the thing arrived yesterday, and it's pretty cool looking. The razor has nice heft, the scales seem decent, the blade showed the typical signs of age but would clean up nicely... Then I noticed the tang. "Pakistan."
How long has Pakistan been making razors? Did they ever make good ones over there? Has this razor been "distressed" to look like a vintage one, on the theory that buyers are catching on to cheap Pakistani steel?
I guess I'll try to hone it up and see what I think... But I'm wondering if anyone else has run across a vintage Pakistani razor. Here's a link to the auction.

first thing I would look at is if the bevel looks realistic and whether or not there is any hone wear.
the Paki I got had to be honed for like 3 hours (no shit) for the edge to even touch the hone (instead of the shoulder of the bevel)
does it have the standard goop near the pivot?

I inherited five of my Grandfather's razors. Of the five, one was a Pakistan. Gramps passed in the seventies at age 85 in the seventies; I don't know if he was str8 shaving at that time. - in fact, I don't recall him shaving. I just can't remember. Anyway, I was taken back by the Pakistan razor. Thinking that Pakistan str8 razors is a modern thing. I, too, wondered if Pakistan razors from the past were ever any good. I guess I will hone it up and find out. Under the scope, the steel appears very shiney with deep scratches - not good.
