Thanked: 171An Aust for Every Day
Last March, while looking for something unrelated, I stumbled across a 7-day set of Friodurs on "The Bay" and, while I took a risk that surprisingly few bidders dared to take, I ended up with a very nice, fairly inexpensive, complete 7-day set of 5/8 Friodurs that shaved surprisingly well, needed minimal work on the stones, and thus must have been well looked after by the previous owner.
5/8 is not my favourite size though, but it gave me the idea of asking Ralf Aust whether he could make me a 7-day set of my favourite 6/8 size in carbon steel, Spanish point, with English day names, and different wood scales (arranged from dark to light).
I had two of his 6/8 Spanish point razors already, so they became the starting point, Ralf Aust just needed to engrave the day names on those, and make a matching set of 5 more.
Like many projects, it took somewhat longer than planned, on top of that we just moved house (which explains the drab background, as my study is not completely set up yet), and I also had asked Ralf Aust to send the razors as letter mail in twos and threes, as they get waved through Customs here without raising much interest.
Today, the last two finally arrived and here is how it looks like:
I found Ralf Aust always open to suggestions, prepared to make a razor to order with some customization, and this was no exception.
As a gentleman is not supposed to talk about money, just let me mention that I found Ralf Aust prices always reasonable, prices can be seen on his website, and I really only needed to add 5 razors anyway.
Now, if I could only find among all the moving boxes that leather sheath that I had made for this set....

Thanked: 292Very nice set. Since you now have a Friodur 5/8" set and a Ralf Aust 6/8" set, perhaps it is now time to dream about a set of 7/8". :thinking
