    Default Interesting new purchase

New Razor I couldn't do without. It says Brooks and Crookes on one side and ra Brokhahne.
I found a bit of info on Brooks and Crooks and a W Brokhahne in New York but no RA Brokhahne in Hamburg. Did one rebrand the other.
    Thoughts?
Age? Pre-1890 with no England but curious is any other ideas.
    Cheers,

MY guess is the razor is a Brookes & Crookes which was sold by RC Brokhane from Hamburg. Finding info on people and/or businesses from Hamburg may be very difficult considering the destruction caused by Allied bombing during WWII https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bombin...n_World_War_II .

It's an interesting looking razor. I like it a lot. I hope you find more information. I don't have any but wanted to subscribe to this thread to see.

Good luck and congrats on the find.

Far worse. There were an estimated 40,000 deaths caused by Operation Gomorra alone not counting the other 69 times Hamburg was bombed. Bomber Command was running out of targets by the time they chose Dresden.

Hmm, thanks for the history lesson.
I think we forget the true cost of war. WW2 especially, with all the Hollywood versions out there.

Nice razor from my home city John Brookes & Thomas Crookes operated from the Atlantic works, Upper St Phillips road, Sheffield. John Brookes died at quite a young age leaving Thomas Crookes to run the business with a manager named Westby. The factory was powered by a large Gas engine, Gas in the UK is the vapour type (not as we call petrol or US gas). The engine bed was said to have been buried under the tall flats built over the site.
The above photo shows the factory just before it was demolished in the late 1950's.
    Regards Brian

Either a Hamburg retailer or Hamburg grinder (the Germans got better at hollow grinding earlier). My guess is a grinder ("Schleiferschaft" from the attached newspaper). See: https://books.google.de/books?id=X65...amburg&f=false

Good find. I can't read it on my phone, it doesn't zoom in enough. Interesting that they sent it to Germany for the grind. They are supposed to be a small batch company but high end. Interesting to take it for a spin. Ol' boy probably has stories to tell.
    Thanks
