Dang! 500 posts! Nice!
It's going to take me some time before I can reach that number.
BTW, I ordered 2 Wapi's to try out. I'm already thinking about going down to Woodcraft for some Purple Heart or something to make scales out of.
It would be a nice little project I think.
Hmmmmm.... I wonder where I can get the blade lazer etched??
I like the idea of my own initials or something on it.

With this kind of razor, is it even worth trying to use it as a practice razor for learning how to hone? can an edge be put on it?

No. An edge can not be put on these cheap types of razors because the steel is of a lower grade, which breaks down when you get to the very fine levels honing requires. The metal in the blade is simply not cut out for straight razors. While you may be able to practice the actual motions of honing with these razors, without a blade that will hold an edge you're just wasting your time. You won't have any idea if you're getting better at honing, or if you're doing things wrong, etc.
Stay far away from cheap buys like these.
