Thanked: 96Razor grind
I have razors from a wedge to an extra full hollow grinds in 5/8 to 7/8. I have 11 razors I rotate and they run the gamut of grinds. I can really see the difference in feel and performance. Curious to hear from our distinguished followers on their opinions on what they like and why. Does blade width and grind effect the feel and performance?

I prefer a heavier grind quarter hollow 13/16 up to 9/8+ for me.

I prefer full hollow 6/8-7/8 blades. I like the livelyness and auditory feedback of full hollow blades.

1/2-1/4 hollow, never cared for a wedge, they are fine but those 1/2 hollows are my favorite, 7/8 and above. Tc

Thanked: 4827Absolutely grind and blade width effect the quality of the shave, but it is different from most people. I have a preference of 6/8 to 8/8 half to quarter hollow. I have a few full hollows that I like too and the occasional near wedge gets slipped into the rotation every now and then. I would use the extra hollows more if they weren't so chatty all the time, I like the shave but not the noise. As always, your mileage may vary.

I definitely prefer smaller blades, they're easier for me to maneuver and they're lighter, I just like it better.
5/8 are fun to shave with, but if I could I would even prefer a 4/8 to shave with. Love 'em.
I rarely shave with my bigger blades, quite a shame actually. (I notice most people prefer the heavier/larger blades, I used to as well)
I also tend to prefer more hollower grinds. AND shoulderless, no stabilizers to get in the way of the honing, especially important on these smaller blades.
Gimme a shoulderless, hollow, 4/8 and I'm a happy shaver.Last edited by TristanLudlow; 09-16-2017 at 04:31 PM.

Thanked: 96I am tending away from the full hollow. I like the way the 1/4 & 1/2 stay on my face. I am not going to open a can of worms but I got a custom razor that had an extra full hollow with steel that seemed to be like spring steel. Looks great in my razor holder but the flexibility just gives me a harsh shave. I have also settled on the 6/8 or 7/8. Like the width and weight. Getting bad hands in my old age and find the larger razors easier to hold. Don't get old, you get bad hands and to much face.

I think that the different widths and grinds certainly effect the feel of each but I can get good performance out of any style I have tried. I have gone away from rotating on a daily or regular basis because of this. If I use the same one for a month or more I don't have to think about what the blade likes.
