    Question Anyone Familar w/ These?

Don't see anything in the library. I guess I'll get some better pictures and submit them.

1.) First is Chandler & Barber Boston. Reverse side says "THE HUB"

2.) When I searched for Naporkowski New York Brooklyn (first name isn't legible on tang) I found a reference to Charles N on B&B.

3.) G Crown R Neat Cast Steel. Seems larger than other stubtail I've seen. It's twice as big as the Ryal I have. Maybe it is common, I don't know know. What did they use for the inlay? Time period?

    Thanks

    Answering the last question; Inlay:
After handling a lot of razors, I would hazard a guess as to how its done.

Two methods were common and there could be others:
A sheet metal escutcheon was riveted to the scale.
A pewter/lead blank was pressed into an undercut area in the scale by a press with a design on the contact end which expanded it into the undercut and added a design to the surface. ( Undercut meaning the basic hole was beveled around the bottom with a tapered cutter.)
Yours seems to be the undercut stamping method. See the lighter area of the horn against the inlay?

    PS.
That was for older razors. There are also some with bent tabs holding the escutcheon in place. Some of the newer one seem to cast the inlays in place and others appear to hot melt them into the scales.

Chandler & Barber was the name of a large Hardware supplier in Boston I believe beginning early 1900's. I have hand saws with their company name etched on the plates. "HUB" was used on razors made by Dame Stoddard (?) I know I have several of those tucked away somewhere. Also a Boston company if I remember correctly. "HUB" also being a reference to Boston itself.

Interesting. Here is some close-ups of the discussed features. Silverloaf, did the the Stoddard razors print HUB like this?

Richard, this looks like they probably beveled it like you mentioned. It seems they went further and pressed it from both sides to create a rivet. Curious.

I have to dig around to find the ones I own but if I remember right they simply had "HUB" stamped on the front of the tang and Dame Stoddard company logo on reverse of tang.

Better yet, here's more reliable info than my faulty memory ;-) looks like the opposite of what I thought. The razor featured in the link also had a very similar design to yours.
STRAZORS.com - all about classic razors - Dame Stoddard & Kendall, Boston, Trademark "HUB".
