Thread: Little dollar project

I picked this razor up for a few dollars. I just wanted for a little project there’s not much use for it because it has a large crack in the tip. I just picked it up to have a little fun fixing it the best I can. Keeps me out of trouble. Anyone have an knowledge about this razor just for hoots.

SRD made quality razors. The tip can be shortened to remove the crack. The blade shows signs of damage from cell rot. Did it have active rust in the damaged areas? If so the scales red to be replaced.

It did have some rust but nothing to bad and it wasn’t everywhere it was bits and pieces

You can easily take 1/4" off the tip and salvage the blade.

I have that same razor sitting in the mug on my bathroom counter top. Never saw one that wasn't made in Germany. S.R. Droescher razors are superior shavers.

Looks like a nice french tip can be made out of it without taking too much edge away. Good luck on what ever you do with it. But I'd start with unpinning and fixing the tip. Be careful as vibrations can make the crack longer!

That is a quality blade. I'd check and make sure that it will take an edge first. With the rust or cell rot damage it might be a bear getting an edge to hold.

Yeah that corrosion pattern looks a bit like cell rot damage. I'd keep it separate from other razors and watch it for a while. If it is cell rot, it won't take long to see the corrosion come back, especially on the polished bevel.

I don't have any info on the blade, but it looks like a nice razor to me.

I would not be so hasty to dismiss it because of the crack though. I have seen them turn into Spanish points or even shortened. Good luck with the project and it would be great to see some progress pictures too.

Hi there, I only been in to sr's for 2-3 months and trying to learn all I can. So can some one tell me what cell rot is, how to avoid it and can it be fixed? Some things I can figure out on my own but no idea on this one.
