Default The early safety razors article

Early safety razors were made by adding shields to straight razors. The history of the early attempts at making safety razors (before Gillette's invention) can be found in a new article by Robert K. Waits at http://www.razorandbrush.com/perkam.html
It is a very interesting and well written article that all shaving history buffs should enjoy.

Now don't misunderstand. I like straights very much. But this desparation.

I have an 1880 comfort which is the razor that all other safety razors were based on.

The Kampfe brothers actually slightly and I mean slightly changed the design when they moved to NY in the 1890 and applied for a patent.

The Comfort safety razor was a German copy of the Kampfe made by Friedrich Baurmann & Son of Soligen, and imported to the U.S. by Serverin Droescher, N.Y.C. The Baurmann Co. still exists. Their tag line is "Quality Since 1880." Several versions of Comfort safety razor were sold, some were called the American Model.

The Kampfe brothers and their father came to New York City from Saxony in 1870-72 and started a cutlery business in 1878. They applied for their first razor patent in May 1880. (See Chapter 4 of my book -- Another shameless promotion )

That had me googling for the word pogonotomy and that lead me to this:
    Exploring the Science of Shaving
Did you know we lose nearly as much skin as hair during shaving - up to 1/2 cc? I like to think my technique is a bit better than that!
