Thanked: 0Care when storing a strait razor
Hello all,
Just wanted to ask how you all store your strait razors? I know more then I should on how to store knives, as my step-father (god rest his soul) collected knives, and I as well was doing it. I use a cabinet with some pretty big bags of desiccant, and a light that keeps it warm.
Is this how you all do it as well?

Dryness is the overall controlling issue. Humidity is the razor killer,
Do not store your blades in the bath. Period.
Always dry thoroughly after use and leave exposed to air for a few hours after use.
Your cabinet sounds fine as it is heated and has the desiccants.
There are several threads on storing. Check the library for more ideas. If you don't care where you are, you are not lost.

Display on the wall in an open position. If they are going to sit for days and days without being used then a touch of gun oil on the blade. As Dave said. Drying is key. Use T.P. or Kleenex to dry the blade and leave open for a few hours before you close it up. There is a recent thread on razor storage. Just look around a bit.
It's just Sharpening, right?

I would only add you should keep celluloid razors separate from the others if storing them in a case/box for a long period of time in case they start deteriorating (aka cell rot, gassing off) which will rust everything in the same case.
