Default new straights , ( to me )

Just picked up 2 straights , wondering if anyone has info on them .

Edwd. Atkinson . Milton st. Sheffeild . on one side . nothing on reverse

Gottlieb , Hammesfahr , Solingen , Foche . again , nothing on reverse

the Atkinson is far differant than the other 80 plus straights i own .
it has what i am calling a hollow grind just below the spine
about 1/4 wide and 2 and 1/2 long . on one side only . strange or ?

    Thanks all

Are you saying that the Atkinson is hollow ground on one side and flat on the other?
If so that would make it a microtome. They are for cutting very thin tissue samples in medical labs.

RezDog nailed it! I have found a couple of similar ones over the last few years. Some are dead flat/ wedge grind, on one side and others are normal grind except for the groove/ fuller. They will shave well when properly honed. Your muscle memory will just adjust the angle automatically.
    Enjoy your find!
