water buffalo horn scales anyone??
Besides Joe Chandler, who I haven't been able to get a hold of (and who made JoshEarl's beautiful Wap. scales), is there anyone else who makes scales out of Buffalo Horn? I'm looking for all black horn, as black as can be, probably from something like India water buffalo.
I see Robert Williams says he has horn, but quotes $300 for starting work. I'm more in the neighborhood of $50 for some horn scales.

Does Bill Ellis use horn for his restorations? I see some pretty wood scales for sale on his site.

Anyone else? I'll even take rough blanks and finish them myself if I can get them for about $50 (it's all my budget allows).

Thanked: 4You could always just buy some horn, make a template and have a go at shaping them yourself.

Thanked: 5Roberts work is $300 starting for a whole custom razor, not just scales. I'd say give him a call and see if you can work something out. I beliebe Bill works with horn too (i remember him saying how bad it smells)

Thanked: 9Listen to Eric!
Man, $300 for a pair of scales is steep - I hope Robert doesn't get any ideas from your post
Cheers

Thanked: 324Damn, if I could make $300.00 for a set of horn scales, life would be mighty grand. Horn scales usually run somewhere between 45 and 80 bucks depending on the type of horn. Some horn is more expensive and difficult to work than others. Buffalo horn is the least expensive and easiest and so is the lowest priced.
