Default How easy is it re pin original Dubl duck scales...Also cool wonderedge photo.

I have a very nice wonderedge however the scale is going to break at pin hole if I try to tighten and it is very loose. I found a good deal on a wonderedge with very good scales (okay blade) and wanted to know how hard would it be to re pin the nice blade onto the nice scales. I have pinned razors before and taken them out of original scales (sometimes re using) but I don't know how easy the wonderedge/goldedge scales crack.
Was able to get the wonderedge for 125$ shipped with a lot of razors and small barber hone. I put the stuff in the lot I didn't want up and looks like it will go for 50 bucks so I pretty happy with that. Planned on keeping wonderedge stored away until I find a good set of wonderedge scales for sale (might have a pair soon if not the wait continues). I did some light restore on the work while trying to keep the swirls and at the moment I am very much liking how it looks.

Suppose I could use goldedge scales and transfer inlays as well not sure how much trouble that can be though

If you have experience doing unpinning and repining a razor it is relatively easy to do. If you have no experience you can damage the scales both in the process of unpinning and repining them. Since original DD scales are not being made anymore it may be better to send them out for that job depending on your experience level. That call is yours.

My experience is just with unpinning razors with 2 separate pins and using a larger washer (thinking this lessens chance of messing up scales while pinning not sure though). I usually am able to get blade to shut center (with sanding on inside if I need to). Not sure if I would be able to unpin just the pivot and separate it enough to put in other razor without removing other 2 pins. Might check with others to see what they want for a re-pinning job. I usually use file to remove pin and know that it doesn't always go smoothly that way.

quick edit: ended up passing on scales as there was a slight crack starting to form by pivot, so just going to wait it out. Might think about swapping inlays on goldedge scales eventually but time will tell
