Thanked: 9Amyn,
I don't encourage RAD (actually, selling off razors trying to deal with mine). It's a slippery slope. But I'll give you some ideas: ERN made a number of razors that were very high quality. Such as Sta-Sharp, Crown and Sword, Gong, etc. They are great shavers.
Cheers

I picked up a nice Satinedge at a local antique "mall" yesterday for $24. Unfortunately after I had shined it up I noticed it had a bit of a frown, so I worked the frown out on my DMT 325 hone. I was able to put on what appears to be a bevel but it won't pass the TNT . Any suggestions? I've probably put it through 75 laps of the DMT and maybe 60 more on a carborundum.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

Thanked: 5I was about to say "you'll never pass the TNT test off the DMT 325" but then you mentioned the corborundum. I have no experience with barber hones, so i can't comment

Yeah, I have a Carborundum/Belgian Blue combo, a yellow coticule and the DMT. I did a progression with all of them (slurry/no slurry) and I still could not get the razor to"bite". I check the edge every 10 to 20 laps as well.
Should I just keep going on the Blue or Yellow?
This is driving me a bit crazy.
Thanks.

Thanked: 155I have one, a Satin Edge that I bought off of ebay. It is an excellent shaver, but then so are my Bocker Red Injun and my Red Imp. I also have a Geneva Seneca Chief that I am still working on, but it promises to be just as good.

I've had the same experience. I have a gaggle of geese and they all shave great. Don't know why, but why argue with perfection.

I've wanted to try a DD, but just couldn't justify the money. Then I picked one up on Ebay for $13.00. Pictures were not very good and there appeared to be a lot of rust and patina on the blade. + it didn't have the usual DD fancy scales. I got it about three days ago. It's a 9/16, "Special Wedge". The blade was heavy with patina and dark black spots, but no rust. I spent all morning polishing, and when I got down to the metal, there was a new blade that had never been used. The scales were an amber celluloid with a white wedge. Plain, but not unatractive. I suspect the scales are original, but I could be wrong.
I put on a new bevel with my 1200 DMT and went to work with my Belgium Blue, The Coticule, and a Mueller Thuringen. It honed up beautifully, and gave me one of my best shaves ever. I love everything about it!: The edge, the balance, the shave it gave, and even it's plain look; and to top it all off, the price I paid.
Regards,

If your willing to do some restoration on them, you can get DD's for a good price on ebite. I see them go for under $20 alot, they just need a bit of TLC and boom
