Default Has anyone ever heard of Gladiator Co Inc Razor???

    Greetings Gentleman
While I was out the end of the Island today I stopped in an antique store and asked my usual "do you have any straight razors or cast iron cookware?" He had 4 razors laying around 1 worse then the next. This one was by far the best of the lot. He wanted $40 and settled for $20. Works for me! I cant seem to find anything about this razor or company. I took a few pics with my phone I hope they will help. Anyone with any knowledge of this razor that is willing to share would be appreciated. I looked in the SRP library and googled it but nothing much.

    It says on one side:
    GLADIATOR CO. INC.
    543-545 10th AV. N.Y.C.
    MADE IN GERMANY

on the other side in script:
    Gladiator

Nice find in decent shape too. All I can say is that it was made for the NY importer Gladiator Co Inc and could have been made by any of a number of Solingen makers. Being stamped Made in Germany would lead me to believe it was made pre WWII.

Thank You Bob. I appreciated the info. I was guessing 1940's - 50's. I couldn't find anything on the importer to see when they were in business.

You might be able to find the maker by looking for the brand name Gladiator if you wade through this Razor makers . My eyes go cross eyed every time I try and search it. I could find nothing on the importer either.

I see what you mean about eyes going cross eyed Bob! I've been in there twice now and it gets buggy fast!

Yes, it is really too bad that there is no search function on that where you can input a trade name and get a maker as a result.

Reminds me of my Beau Brummel No. 35; if you're lucky enough, this Gladiator will shave similarly smooth and sharp!

Could be Carl Wüsthof Gladiatorwerk AG. Solingen, who used 'Gladiator Extra' brandname.
