Thanked: 25Today’s Shave With Old Wade And Butcher
This very old Wade and Butcher Razor was made around 1840 - 1850. It was given to me 40 years ago by my Father Inlaw a Barber now retired. A man who was in his 80s gave it to him in 1956. He had shaved with the razor for many years and it was given to him by his Father. It has the original wood scales with someone’s initials carved in the handle.
Last night I decided to hone the razor using my Naniwa Super Stones and get it shave ready. The blade has lots of Patina but no rust and the edge is fine. This morning it gave me a very nice very smooth shave with MDC Soap and my Thater 4125/6 B brush.

Thanked: 25I wish I were capable of fully restoring it. I’m not concerned that it would hurt the value because I’ll always have it.

Congrads on a good shave with a razor passed down. It is a fine thing when you think about who had used it before you and them being family.
It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 104I dont think I would fully restore it. I would probably just polish up the scales a bit and maybe a little mothers on the blade and then call it a day. I like the way the blade looks, as is.

Thanked: 25The wood scales need to be replaced. They’re cracked at the pivot pin. I don’t believe I’ll have it fully restored.

The spine looks unusual unless it's my eyes.
Nice piece
