Yeah those silica gel packs would be great, for the rare occasions I forget to use Ballistol.

We preach about razor maintenance all the time but sometimes not practice what we preach. That its when it bites us in the arse!

Beautiful piece of work. You are not an idiot, at least as measured by this issue, but a victim of not knowing the idiosyncratic nature of the materials. Cedric Christ is not familiar to me, but his handling of your problem by making it his problem as well, assures I'll not forget him. Enjoy and get the oil out!

Cedric is a stand up guy, he was happy to help this silly boy, it was probably a quick fix for his skills but he even rehoned too so hats off

If you get a chance check out Alis blade on Facebook. He is a true artisan and one of the few that can produce full hollow and hollow bellied grinds

I have three of Cedric's razors, and each were magnificently honed. His workmanship is just incredible. I'm sure happy to hear that your razor has been restored to it's original glory.

I get razors in all the time which have have had a ritual of some type of oil on a regular basis.
The scales are usually soaked with it on the inside and the pivot is usually loose due to that 'drop' some feel necessary there.
Oiling a blade which is not dry will trap the moisture. Closing the blade into the scales with moisture/oil inside will often do same.

Long ago, I took to treating my blades with TufGlide once. Just before 1st use.
3 drops does the whole thing and then, it is wiped-off. I never apply again.
I live in a humid area, although my razors reside in an air-conditioned environment.
As I shave, I never get the pivot wet.

For years and years, I wipe them dry with a clean, dry towel and strop the edge on same.
I allow them to sit with blade open for a day
    Never any rust.

    Just me..

I use those little packets that come in every thing. A few in every drawer of my razor cabinet. Some are large too. With that and always drying and leaving open for a day, ive not had an issue yet. I do yet lots of water in the pivot as i make a big mess of my razors when shaving and need to rince it out. Still, no issues yet.

The save on that razor was a fine thing for the maker to do for ya. He stands behind his customer service very nicely. It hard to come by now days.
    It's just Sharpening, right?

    Nice blade..
You may have seen I have a W&B 9/8 ths with translucent horn.
Never used it because it will be sold one day and that should be the owners privilege.
It's never seen water but I cannot oil it due to the scales.
Got it out the other day only to find a rust spot and pit.
At least you had a shave with yours

Edit: it saw water when I honed it

I once had an old box that was lined with a sort of felt. And there was something in the box that was breaking down, almost like cell rot. The razors in the box were getting a form of rust on them. It wasn't moisture. It was forming with a pattern like someone sprayed over the closed blade with spray paint. Where the scale was there was no rust/corrosion. Where the metal was exposed, there was. It was a clear line. And the razors closest to the sides of the box were effected most. In fact, the whole box was breaking down and turning brittle. I didn't take too much time to figure it out. I threw the box out, got out my metal polish, and rehoned the blades that were in it. Never had a problem like that since. I'm sure someone could have diagnosed the issue but it was just an old box.

I live in the desert so humidity is not an issue for me. But I keep my razors in the 7inch razor sleeves (burkas) SRD sells for $5. If you haven't too many razors it's a good solution.
