Six NOS Filarmonica NOVODUR Straight Razors
I was walking down the street here in Tokyo and passed by a knife shop that looked quite old/established and thought I would go in. I am a knife collector as well. I was looking around the store and asked if he had any razors. Well sure enough he did. I didn't see them because they were on the other side of a dirty glass display. He opened up the glass door and showed me what he had. Well there were Merkur DE's and Thermos shaving brushes and feather blades on a few shelves but what caught my eye was the few straight razors that were in the bottom of the display. I asked where they were made and he said 'Spain'. So, I was allowed to look through them. He had (note past tense) two 3/8ths, one 6/8ths (number 13) and three 7/8ths (number 14) Filarmonica Novodur NOS striaght Razors. I am not as sure about the smaller ones as I did not open them up. But I Bought the 6/8ths right on the spot. Not a bad price, it was 12000 yen. I can't tell you how it shaves yet as I am not into stright razor shaving yet but what I saw I had to have. I will post Pics if I can after I take a few. The remaining 5 razors will probably sit there for who knows how long but I am tempted to get some more. The #14's were 14000 yen I think, and the small ones 8000 yen. A pretty fair price for a vintage NOS Filarmonica NOVODUR? You tell me...

Zeth,
Firstly, welcome to SRP. It appears that you have a good eye for razors. Since you don't shave with a straight, what are your plans for the Fillys? Also, forgive my ignorance but what is Yen to US dollar conversion on those razors?
Enjoy.

Well I'd hoped that my previous reading on this and other forums had provided me with an exceptional razor in mint condition. Since I don' t yet shave with straights I have put it in the back of my dresser drawer to be used after I get further into the straight razor scene. In the future I plan on getting some Shapton sharpening stones here in Japan and a good strop from The Well Shaved Gentleman. I was also thinking of finding some one here in Japan that could benchmark hone my razor for me. Maybe and old swordmaker or something. I'll just take it one step at a time. And yet the unsold remaining fillies sit unused and lonely in that dirty old knife shop.
The currency exchange would be about $101 USD. Bare in mind that there were no shipping costs involved. The #14's would work out to be about $117 USD. Mint gold inlay and white scales with gold harp emblem on the scales. Pics are still in the works.

I would also like to purchase a 7/8 if there is one available. A 6/8 would be cool too. I can also hone your razor for you if you would like to try to work something out.

Thanked: 91. Welcome!
2. Since Chris and David are first, I'll add myself to the back of the line for the third Filarmonica if still available
Cheers
