Thanks everyone for the input. I feel like I dodged a bullet.

Ran across a koraat thread, and started looking at his many options, but after I made my own selections, I got an email stating that he won't be back to work for a while since they just had a baby.

I'll just have to keep my ear to the ground around here.

You must be ready to wait for a custom razor, if they can get you one quick I wouldn't buy it. It's the way it is. These guys who call it custom yet deliver in a couple f weeks don't have any customers or it's a production razor not custom, like what the do over at PRC. And if you want a production type I would go to Brian Brown before them, at least he can make a real custom also.

Koorat is a fine razor also, pretty much semi custom. But then if your fond of he hollow bevel why not go with Bluesman blades? He is one of the finest CUSTOM grinders out there, plus here in the US. Find a style you like and then ask who has the ability, and some of he finest out there are in this forum, i.e.; Snail Forge, Tim Zowada, Brian Brown, Charlie Lewis, Max Sprecher, Jenness, So you have lots of QUALITY choices. I'm actually looking to get a wedge, or as close to a wedge as I can get for my next razor. When I was choosing options for the Koraat I specified near full wedge for the grind. From your comment it sounds like most people ordering from him are looking for hollow grind. I'm definitely a bit lost trying to sort this out. I'm glad I started this thread though, because I may have wound up with a real lemon.

I personnaly like the hollow grinds more than the wedge grind. Its a personnal preferance.
TC has a point. A true Custom is ordered and made acording to your specs. Weeks or a couple months time to make depending on the makers time restraints. Good point TC.

They all will make a wedge for you, let's face it easier grind work, but there is not really a true wedge or you would be honing the whole face of the blade, Koorat just has a very popular bellied grind. But so does Bluesman. The hollows are the tough ones. And they are some nice shavers. Tc

It may be a good idea to try different grinds and blade sizes before ordering a custom razor. They are all available in good condition vintage razors at nowhere near the cost of a custom razor. With hollow grinds there are different degrees of hollow to also consider. See here for the different grinds https://shavelibrary.com/w/The_strai...ths_and_grinds Once you really know what you want in a razor drop the big bucks on a custom.

Great advice here. Test the waters first with a vintage..

My KWB holds an edge remarkably, especially given the narrowness of the bevel - kind of defies expectations really. I don't shave with it much though - more of a curiosity really. If you want a custom British made razor, try Edward Brice. I have two from him and they are just stunning to shave with.
