Fred B Gurney
Has anybody any info (or blades) on this maker?
Fred B Gurney.
Restoring a razor today, I will show pics when its finished .
So far I have just tackled the blade face on the buffer, the spine & tang will get the belt grinder tomorrow.
I have consulted all the experts (google) and checked some reference books but no joy.

I can't say I've ever heard of that one. Only thing I can say is it has to be before 1900. My understanding is that after the Wilson Gorman Tariff Act in 1894 all razors had country stamped on the blade. At least those made by companies who wanted to trade with the US. I'm sure that is an over simplification and perhaps you already knew this but I figured I'd share that little bit. I hope that helps. Good luck

I did know that but the Tang stamp looks quite modern to my eyes.
It is a hollow 7/8ths (ish) btw.

Try this link. It is from a book called Iron Age I found doing a Google search "Fred gurney razor" it seems to be referencing the year 1896 in New York but mentions Sheffield. He appears to have been an importer. I'll upload the screen shot of the page that mentions him. I just wanted to see what it said about him from the search but you may find more than that by looking a little harder.

Restored the blade and made some scales only to find that the blade is severely twisted so I think I will let it rest for an undetermined amount of time. I do have another with rust on the tang. I will dig it out.
Shame really because it is quite a robust blade with a thick tang even though it is full hollow.
The scales went to a NOS KAM

Nice work on the scales. I like to use wood for scales.
