Joseph Elliot "Frameback?"
So I bought this Joseph Eilliot on ebay the other day.... IT IS COOL AS HELL!
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=300135009721
I remember seeing one like this posted somewhere on the forum, but couldn't find it while doing a search. It is etched "Fine Silver Steel Concave" and the grind is like none I've ever seen before. The scales are in great shape, but are a little discolored (lighter" along the edges.
So... a few questions....
1. Any ideas as to how old this thing is?
2. Is there anything I can do to refurbish the scales beyond a little polish with MAAS?
3. What the hell would you call this grind? Frameback? Halfback?
4. It has some very light staining, but no pitting or rust. If I can manage go get rid of most of it with MAAS, could I just get her honed and shave, or would I have to worry about sanitation issues? I ask because I don't really want to get it restored... kinda like the character it has now.

My info states , that Joseph Elliot was making razors in Sheffield , England from 1821-1854 . Since your razor is a frameback , I would guess it was made in or around the 1850's .

I just looked at the pic . There was a Joseph Elliott (Eliot) & sons . , that was a different company than Joseph Elliot . A Joseph Elliot razor will have a trademark , consisting of a cross , with the letter "C" on each side of it , with the "C" on the left , reversed . That razor looks late nineteenth/early twentyieth century , to me . Of course , I could be wrong and will stand corrected if I am .
