    Default Unusual Scales ID

Found these on the bay and have never seen any quite like this. https://www.ebay.com/itm/WADE-BUTCHE...7d61%7Ciid%3A1 Can anyone assist in identifying what material or wood these could be? The scales look to be in good shape considering its age. Blade not so nice. Just curious. Thanks, Austin

I do not believe they are wood. They look more like antler or picked bone.

Looks like pickbone bone or horn to me, (note bug bites at bottom of photo). Either dirty or stained.

Received this reply from the seller:
“The scales are are not wood or leather. I'm not sure if it is some type of horn or bakelite. I have seen other scales that looked very similar to these described as "picked bone".”
It is a nice looking material whatever it is. Thanks for your responses.

There are many forms of Pickbone, or Jigged scales many done by machine, though these look to be done by hand and the bites, horn.

Even Charlie Lewis’ scales can be considered a form of Pickbone/jigged even though no jig was used and not on bone.

I agree very nice, definitely worth trying to save.

Would love to see those scales after a good cleaning and oil soak. Blade doesn't look to happy though. (

My guess is that this razor will go unsold st this price. Blade needs some major work, well beyond my current skill set. Do lust after those scales though.

More likely than not they're pressed horn.

Also not original to the razor.
