Perceived difference between 6/8 and 7/8?
I have a couple of 6/8 blades (Dovo Bismarck and Gong Cutlery which has a slightly longer blade than the Dovo) but when I tried the Filly 7/8 doble temple, I was almost overwhelmed with the overall size of the razor and blade.
Is there that big a difference between 6/8 and 7/8 or is that model of Filly atypical of a 7/8 blade?"But you're not as confused as him are you. I mean, it's not your job to be as confused as Nigel. "

Those that like big blades will probably tell you nah, not much difference. Personally once you go from a 5/8s to a 6/8s the differences are remarkable and to 7/8s they are quite large and to 8/8s its down right humongous. I think the amount of metal just grows exponentially. I've never seen a small light 7/8s razor. Of course if you compare a 7/8s wedge to a 7/8s hollow grind the wedge will be much more massive. Thats a design thing.

Yeah, for some reason, at 7/8 the perceived size of the blade changes. I've got a couple of 8/8 wedges that feel really massive.

I also noticed a big difference between a 6/8 and 7/8 - the move from a 5/8 to a 6/8 didn't seem to be as big a deal.
I tend to use mostly 6/8 razors, but own everything from 5/8 to a custom that is just over 8/8. I'm now used to my 7/8 razors, but do notice a big difference when I go to the 8/8.
Not sure why this is, but I denfinitely think there is a more noticeable difference when going from a 6/8 to a 7/8 than moving from a 5/8 to a 6/8.

Well, it's not just perceived, there is a real difference. Because of the wedge-like shape there will be more of a difference in weight between a 7/8 and a 8/8 than between a 4/8 and 5/8.

Ive just got rid of all my 7/8 &8/8 blades as i prefer the feed back from 6/8 &5/8 blades I seem to be more consistent with the smaller sizes& Imust admit my Maestro 7/8 was as large as the 8/8 I had but it was much better balanced & a kinder shaver to my face.Paul

Hey Brian, I think that Filly is a 15/16", thus the bigger jump!
