I'll make it a lot simpler. Making a good razor is not the same as making a knife. In order to make a razor, you need to know a lot about both steel and the processing of this steel. You need a lot of practice in the manufacture of razors is, as well as a lot of little things to consider, based on the shape and configuration of the future product. The end result should be this-the razor should be comfortable to shave the face right out of the box, the shape of the razor should be convenient for straightening the razor on a leather belt. For all this work, the buyer pays the money and the buyer should be satisfied with the purchase.

I have honed many Livi razors including his Damascus snake razors including most of his other designs also, I have never been a fan or rated them, in fact, he made a video once naming me and several other people as someone who was critical of his razors, I always laugh when I see him honing a razor, and then comes the hanging hair test that's where I usually lose it completely.

Oh well. We may as well let it lie. Bashing is not so cool.
We ARE cool, no?

Constructive criticism is cool, Bashing is not.
I hope if I ever get some of mine on the market I get some good feedback positive or negative!

The bull-bashing banjo of Wall Street led to the Larson comic.
Seriously. Guy tore a serious gash into this not so thick bronze sculpture in NYC the other day.--Mark

Thanked: 96I own Livi's carbon steel, Damascus and another club razor. My custom razors came in exactly the way I ordered. I did do some honing to bring it up to my liking. He produces one of the best loom strops anywhere. I had one issue and he paid for me to send it back, corrected the bone scale problem and sent it back, no charge. I have owned most of the custom razor makers and Livi's razors rate better then the majority. He forges the razors instead of using blanks. Attached is a custom razor he made for me that is Damascus, with bone scales. When it was delivered to the SRD, Don called me and all he could say was WOW! Maestro Livi is now retired and I am holding on to my Livi razors, for the most part they are extremely well made. By the way, I was recently offered 3 times what I paid for the displayed razor.

Thanked: 286I had to send most of mine back due to chippy edges from new and the shave quality direct from Mastro livi was horrible. As for razor guy who promoted Mastro livi razors he had a fall out with Mastro livi and that’s why he vanished . Every razor he sold he was getting commission from Mastro livi. He used this forum to basically sell razors by making them out to bee the bees knees.
I brought a pair of scissors to use as I am a barber and they fell to bits I sent them back and it took two months to get them
Back he basically repaired them , they just sit in a draw as the useless .
I sold my livi razors and lost hundred on them there is no way they hold there value . I was offers a quarter of the price I paid for mine .
The only steel I found to shave decent and hone up well was his damasteelLast edited by gary haywood; 05-05-2020 at 08:11 AM.

Thanked: 96When I got mine I did do some honing on them. Nothing terrible just needed to take them to another level for my preference.
