Looking at the razor in question i would say that the dating is quite close to this time period.

I looked through all the pages of the catalog that Mike sent me but didn't see this etching anywhere which makes sense if it's a commemorative one.
From what I have read so far about the Kno Nothing movement, which I'm fairly convinced this is commemorative of, it should be fairly easy to narrow this down to a period between 1854 and 1860 but actually probably 1859 because the movement was completely dead and dissolved in 1860. More than likely it was sometime either in or just before the election of 1856. I say all this because if that's true it's very rare that you can narrow down the age that closely. Most often it's a 10 or more likely 20 year span that your estimating.

I didn't find this one in the catalog either, Paul.

So I got the lot with this Wosty in it today. Much to my surprise the bright red new rust on the edge...
...wasn't rust at all. It was some red Hook that scraped of with my thumbnail and the rest I cleaned of with rubbing alcohol and a paper towel.



Now for some gentle cleaning which should go fairly easily. It's nice to get a pleasant surprise now and then.

So did I mention this somewhat awesome Joseph Elliot The Celebrated Razor dressed in horn was also in this lot?

Am I correct that this was made some time before 1855? Reverse c, Maltese cross, c mark 1821-1854? This one looks more recent to me so if that dating by the marks is right I would guess late in that time period.

It is definitely old and I would think for certain before 1900 but it is in quite nice shape for that age.

Edit: looking at it now I wonder if this has been reground. Look at the stabilizer. It looks reworked.
