I am really interested to hear about the source for the blanks as well.

I remember seeing a photo before and after, and I think I read they were found somewhere in Italy, can't remember but I think there was some number of how many were found... It's very interesting for me to know the actual maker of the blank for both historical and practical reasons - e.g. was this one of the famous makers? or some totally unknown to us company? etc.

    Cheers

I'm accessing SRP from my BlackBerry so apologies for brevity of this reply as it's painfully slow.

Two days ago I was fortunate enough to be shown the box of very rusty old blanks the Mastro has in his possession. He explained to me that he is working with Paolo Fazzini (who makes custom Pinin pieces) whose grandfather originally forged these blades. There looked to be a couple of hundred rusty and never-ground blanks in the box. The Mastro told me these are all vintage blades more than 100 years old.

There is an article in the Italian journal Lame d'autore, no. 35, ISSN 1592-1984 on p. 76 with pictures of Fazzini and Mastro Livi and the regrinds. Website listed as www.coltellionline.it

Sorry for the teaser! ;-) I promise a full write up of my experience in Perugia on my return. With pictures of course!

    Cheers
    Mark
