Thanked: 154Quiz : a very expensive razor
I happened to stumble on this one, and thought it would make for a nice quiz.
So here is a razor
It has been sold in 2008 for a mind boggling price.
Can you guess :
- The price
- The reason for such a priceBeautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

Thanked: 174Was it the razor that shaved Louis XVI, the last king of France before the Revolution? Or did his valet-de-chambre use it only on himself?

Thanked: 154Damn
You're absolutely right on the first try. That is the razor believed to be the one his valet used to shave him in the "prison du temple" where he was incarcerated prior to his execution.Beautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Thanked: 4828I am far too independent to have a valet.
That is a cool story about the razor though. It's not what you know, it's who you take fishing!

I'll +2 that. The wife was watching The Crown and they show the royal family with their personal servants. I can't even imagine having someone dress me other than my "mamma" when I was still in short pants.
on a side note what always seemed funny to me about that is how they will talk about their personal business as if the servant isn't even there. People do the same thing when I'm working on things. I'm not sure whether to be insulted or astonished or intrigued. It certainly shows that you are inconsequential to them.Iron by iron is sharpened, And a man sharpens the face of his friend. PR 27:17

Thanked: 174I'm glad I guessed right. But what was its last price, and who paid it?

But as for the price, well 20 900€ so, at today's rate it's about $23 100
Probably the most expensive razor I have ever seenBeautiful is important, but when all is said and done, you will always be faithful to a good shaver while a bad one may detter you from ever trying again. Judge with your skin, not your eyes.

I sure hope it has an ironclad pedigree, because that doesn't look likely to me.
I especially love the fact that an early 20th century paper box is supposedly original to it!-Zak Jarvis. Writer. Artist. Bon vivant.

Thanked: 174Yep... According to this blog, its "black leather edged with gold" It also says the razor was displayed at the Musée Carnavalet in Paris up to 1993. I hope the museum did investigate a little about the artifact, although if the box also came from the same museum - it seems unlikely.
